Coding Black Females

Coding Black Females was established in 2017 to address the underrepresentation of black women in tech. We are a non profit organisation with the aim to grow and inspire the community of black female developers. We are the largest network of black female developers in the UK.

Mission

Our mission is to grow the community of black women in software development and technical roles, from entry level to executive level. We will remove the barriers to enter the industry and progress within roles.

Aim

Our main aims are:

  • Build the community by removing barriers, showcasing talent and making our role models visible
  • Provide opportunities for our community to learn new skills, and share their skills with other people in the community
  • Support the community through mentoring, providing a safe space for discussions and development

Job Description

Coding Black Females aims to have at least 2 events a month and the Events Manager will support in getting the setup of the events and finding appropriate people to host and deliver these events. CBF have a growing global community, and our Events and Community manager will support the growth of this community. 

Responsibilities and Expectations

This is a varied role and you will need to be flexible and willing to take on a range of tasks.

Events Management
  • Take ownership and plan all events run by Coding Black Females for our community, corporate partners and community partners
  • Communicate with stakeholders and events organisers
  • Manage a team of events volunteers. We ask our volunteers to commit no more than 2 days a month to help to support the growth of our community. These days could be at weekends, or spread over evenings.
  • Maintaining and regularly updating the event pages using Eventbrite, meet-up and on the Coding Black Females website.
  • Ensure that events are created and planned, as per the events schedule.
  • Source event ideas from the community, and add them to the events plan
  • Book venues and schedule speakers
  • Gather feedback from attendees and organisers
  • Manage budget for events
Experience and interests
  • 1-2 years of experience as an event coordinator, organiser or similar role
  • Has managed events online, in-person and in hybrid settings
  • Familiar with tools such as Eventbrite or Meetup
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Good time-management skills
  • Good stakeholder management
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion for events
  • Has an interest in tech
