Electronic music online

Resident Advisor is an online media and ticket sales company producing content about electronic music. We are also one of the leading sellers of tickets to electronic music events We are looking for a Junior Web Developer who is passionate about electronic music and wants to get involved building products for the electronic music community. Our development team is partly based in our East London office and partly remote. RA is able to offer hybrid working, allowing all employees to work both remotely and in the office, encouraging all staff to work from the at least office 2 days per week. We are also offering this as a fully remote position. If you are applying for the fully remote position, we require you to be in a GMT±2 time zone. RA welcomes applicants from all abilities, backgrounds, ethnicities, experiences, expressions, and orientations. We aim for the staffing at RA to be a reflection of the communities we cover, amplify and participate within. We actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, this is reflected in our internal operations and the treatment of our staff.

What you’ll be doing…

You’ll be working on a range of different products across RA. This could be improving the ticket buying experience for our customers, building new features and tools for promoters, improving our editorial coverage or doing platform and backend work. We operate as a mid-sized development team working with an agile methodology. We have a product management and data support team and you will often be working directly with other parts of the wider company.

We’re looking for…

We’re not looking for a specific list of experience or skills, we believe that a capacity to learn and to pick up new skills is more important than years of experience. We do however require a basic grounding in software development, whether that is from a coding bootcamp, university course or simply experience in writing code. Our minimum requirements would be proficiency in either javascript and a frontend framework such as react; or proficiency in a backend language such as python, java or dotnet. We also require you to be able to use source control effectively.

Tech that we use…

Our main languages are C# for backend services and React for the frontend. We have recently migrated our public-facing site to a modern tech stack, running on Next.js talking to a GraphQL backend written in .NET Core. We have also modernised our hosting platform, running off Kubernetes in the cloud. We use continuous integration and deployment extensively and deploy as often as possible, using feature switches to enable things. We also believe in automation wherever possible, using automated test and static analysis tools on every pull request.

Interview process…

If we like your application, we will do an initial call with you to make sure your expectations match up with ours for the role. If you’re successful we will send you a short coding task to complete in your own time. We will then invite you to a face-to-face or video interview to talk through your task and ask you some general non-technical questions. This will be the final round and, if you’re successful we will get back to you with an offer.
