About the role

Who we are: The Funding and Policy team in the GLA’s Skills and Employment Unit provide expert analysis, advice and evidence to inform policy development on all aspects of skills and employment programmes (totalling c£400m per annum), and deliver robust data handling processes and performance management information. We are recruiting a new Senior Data Analyst to join the team. What you’ll do:

  • Build operations and analytics codebase in collaboration with data team
  • Maintain, enhance, and develop new performance reports, in collaboration with delivery teams and other stakeholders
  • Help to develop our data systems to ensure robust, timely, and impactful reporting
  • Work with the Individualised Learner Record – the UK’s Further Education administrative dataset
  • Collaborate with policy teams on policy and evaluation workstreams

Who we’re looking for: Essential:

  • Experience in analysis and interpretation of multi-table datasets
  • Ability to use reproducible code to analyse data (Python and/or SQL)
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Interest in education data, analysis, and/or policy
  • Ability to learn new datasets quickly


  • Experience in delivering work to meet stakeholder needs
  • Detailed knowledge of the Individualised Learner Record
  • Detailed knowledge of the Further Education sector, especially programmes delegated to the Mayor of London
  • Strong communication skills, especially when communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and working with a wide array of people and teams

  • Skills in the analysis and interpretation of large complex computerised datasets and survey data, and at least three years previous experience of such work in a relevant environment.
  • Strong proficiency in analysing data or building reproducible processes using code, or with the ability to quickly learn new programming languages e.g. Python, R, SQL.
