This is a rare and exciting opportunity for to lead the Information Governance and Security function in an information-intensive world-leading Institution.
About the role:
As Head of Information Governance and Security you will lead both the information governance and information security functions in the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
You will define, establish and operate an information governance framework within the Institute. This will guide information management and effective information risk management. It will also provide the guidance and assurance for our researchers in the way we handle sensitive and personally identifiable data.
You will work with senior managers across the institution to drive the information security agenda and ensure that it meets complex compliance requirements.
You will lead planning initiatives to ensure that security controls are incorporated into IT projects at the design stage and expectations are clearly defined.
You will also play a key role in the evaluation of current Information Security breach management processes and ensure that the institution can meet its mandatory data breach notification obligations should the need arise.
The Wellcome Sanger Institute is a world leading genomics research centre. We undertake large-scale research that forms the foundations of knowledge in biology and medicine. We are open and collaborative; we share our data, results, tools and technologies across the world to advance science. Our findings are used to improve health and to understand life on Earth.
Our science is large-scale and organised into research Programmes, led by our Faculty who conceive and deliver our science, and supported by our Scientific Operations and IT teams responsible for all data production pipelines, compute and storage facilities at the Institute.
Experience of Information Governance and Information Security in a complex, information-intensive organisation.
Knowledge and experience of information governance frameworks for the proper handling of sensitive or personally identifiable data, eg NHS DSP Toolkit
Knowledge and experience of information security as regards threats, policies, processes, procedures, applications and systems
Excellence in leadership and able to communicate and influence at all levels, including board-level, securing the required outcomes in a complex stakeholder landscape
Proven track record of forming and leading high-performing virtual teams
Excellent strategic thinking: able to lead on the development and delivery of organisation-wide strategies and roadmaps
Familiarity with Trusted Research Environments / Data Safe Havens / ISO27001
Strong track-record of being able to energise ommunities on the need for appropriate information governance and security.
Due to Covid 19, the Wellcome Genome Campus closed for all but essential functions and facilities.
