Do you want to play a key part in advancing the world’s leading cancer genomics resource? COSMIC, the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations of Cancer is looking for that person.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced Product Manager with a background in Genomics or Bioinformatics as well as good understanding of the technical processes that are used to turn bioinformatic data into information via both website visual representations and data downloads. Customer focus, and demonstrable pro-activeness, facilitation, prioritisation and communication skills are a must.
COSMIC – the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer – is the world’s largest source of expert manually curated somatic mutation information relating to human cancers. It is the key information source in global human cancer research and is growing rapidly in content, scope and value. COSMIC is part of The Wellcome Sanger Institute – a world leading genomics research centre. We undertake large-scale research that forms the foundations of knowledge in biology and medicine. We are open and collaborative; we share our data, results, tools and technologies across the world to advance science. Our findings are used to improve health and to understand life on Earth.
Data is currently gathered from a variety of sources, from manual curation to structured repositories, and COSMIC requires a Product Manager to develop and manage and deliver the exciting product roadmap for the global oncology community. Our genetic and genomic information is increasing in quantity and scope, its value is enhanced by analytic highlights, and this will provide value-adding products and features to COSMICs already world-renowned product portfolio and reputation for quality oncology information.

You will be an experienced Product manager within an Agile or Scrum framework and either have a background or experience in Genomics or Bioinformatics. You will be a great communicator, facilitator and influencer and able to understand the goals and aims of the collaborative COSMIC team, its customers of researchers, scientists and clinicians, globally.
You will bring new perspectives to COSMIC and have a flair for innovation and out of the box thinking. You will join a multidisciplinary, committed and supportive team, with our people and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at the heart of what we do. You will own the COSMIC Roadmap, Product Backlog, development stories and priorities of the COSMIC development Scrum team. You will work with the Scrum team to ensure that products are described, delivered and released to customers, ensuring that the most value is delivered at the earliest opportunity and our customers and partners are kept abreast of our exciting releases.

Significant experience as a Product Manager in a Scrum Team
Understanding of value-driven development
Experience managing Product Backlogs and maintaining and writing user stories
In-depth knowledge of bioinformatics, and/or molecular or cancer biology
Experience in Agile or Scrum and Kanban
A demonstrable, enthusiastic, proactive and professional attitude
Ability to work with a high degree of detail and thoroughness
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of disciplines
Strong influencing and facilitating skills
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with many groups
Degree, PhD or equivalent experience in Bioinformatics or Computer Science
Experience in managing the development of complex database and web systems
Experience managing large and complex datasets
Cancer genomic data
Experience in writing engaging customer communications via differing media channels
Ability to manage and prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
Excellent, broad-based and self-reliant problem-solving skills
Whilst the developments around COVID-19 continue to evolve, the Wellcome Genome Campus is closed for all but essential functions and facilities.
People remain at the centre of everything that we do and the majority of our staff are now working remotely to ensure continuity of operations, making use of remote communication and collaboration tools.
Interviews will be taking place virtually and the successful candidate should expect to be fully supported through remote on-boarding and working from home until the Campus re-opens to all staff.
